Course: Understanding Substance Abuse and Addiction

 Access:  Public   Status:  Active
This comprehensive program is presented by two of America’s most experienced and renowned experts in Addiction. For more than 20 years, Drs. Ted Parran and Chris L. Adelman have been at the leading edge nationally in the practice of addiction medicine and recovery as well a major resource for training and educational materials for physicians and other behavioral care professionals. These professionals see patients daily at Ohio treatment facilities, including St.Vincent Charity Hospital, Windsor Laurelwood Hospital, Huron Hospital, Cleveland Treatment Center (methadone maintenance), Glenbeigh Hospital and others. In 1990, the pair also started an addiction medicine fellowship for physicians, which has trained dozens of doctors.

The Introduction to Addiction takes the decades of experience in treating patients and presents a basic, but thorough overview in a plain English manner so that both juveniles, adults, and family members of addicted people can understand the basics of addiction. This introduction is a foundation as a first program that provides lifesaving opportunities, and is the keystone to learning the important first step to admit addiction, understand addiction before a user can deal with it appropriately.

After viewing the the first two parts covering Substance Abuse and Addictive Disease, the user will then need to view the programming that applies to their specific life. Thorough and powerful sessions are available in these topic areas:

  • Alcohol Abuse and Addiction, benzos, and barbituates.
  • Cannibinoids: Marijuana, THC, synthetic cannabinoids like Spice, K2, etc.
  • Opiates: Heroin, Opium, Morphine, Codeine, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Methadone, Hydromorphone.
  • Stimulants: cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, ecstasy, bath salts, methylphenidate, amphetamines.
  • Prescription Drugs

All addiction related programs are detailed and practical information for the user presented by medical professionals who have counseled and turned around the lives of thousands of patients. These are not theories from classrooms, but proven therapy that can and will make a difference in the lives of those who take these high quality and challenging programs.

Increasingly, individual therapy is becoming more recognized as effective in society. American Online Learning Center’s approach uses intense immersive learning techniques like those of leading American universities and immerses the user in a highly challenging learning environment. The user must successfully identify themselves as the person who is required to take the course, must pay attention by answering challenging questions, and cannot move onto to the next subject area without successfully answering the questions. Just like leading universities, online educational programming is growing, but this program is not “easy” by any means. It is designed as a program where the user can and will learn practical and proven approaches to behavior modification. The user is not coddled nor told that they are victims, they are empowered to take meaningful control of their lives, make crucial behavior changes, and above all, not make the same judgment error that got them to this course in the first place.
